From April 27th to 30th the beautiful city of Ottawa hosted the RVDA (Recreational Vehicle Dealer’s Association) and the CCRVC (Canadian Camping and RV Council) annual general meetings. The weather was incredibly gorgeous, and it was a pleasure to see our nation’s capital!
The CCRVC meeting was centered around a few big topics, but the highlight is the launch of Canadian Camping Week! Over 400 campgrounds across Canada will be participating in a new initiative put forward by the CCRVC to start off camping season with a great discount program! These campgrounds – including Mountain View – will offer 2 nights of camping for $50 from May 19th to 24th. Go to www.campingweek.ca for more details on participating campgrounds, or visit our Reservations page to book with us.
We were also treated to a wonderful presentation by Ray Coutu from Parks Canada regarding the status of our national parks. Many upgrades and infrastructure investments will be happening in the parks in the next few years, which will be great additions to the campground network overall. Our national parks are gorgeous preservations of some of Canada’s most amazing natural attractions, and will be enjoyed for generations. Expect broadened WiFi services too!
In addition to our industry meetings we were also fortunate enough to receive an audience on Parliament Hill. We spent an advocacy/lobby day meeting with over 40 Members of Parliament regarding some of the most pressing issues in the camping and RV sectors, which contribute greatly to the Tourism industry in Canada. Infrastructure loan programs and being added as stakeholders to a new advertising campaign in the USA were among the topics we focused on. Overall, it was an incredible experience and a wonderful opportunity to invoke positive change for campgrounds nation-wide.
I’d also like to mention, the RVDA of Alberta is hosting their RV Learning Weekend at Ol’ MacDonald’s Resort at Buffalo Lake May 22 to 24. Visit www.olmacdonalds.com for information or to book for this informative weekend gathering. Information on seminar topics can be found at http://www.rvda-alberta.org. I’ll see you there!
